Every time I get on that plane to head toward Las Vegas, the home of this years RESA conference, I cannot wait to experience all that I can for my new found passion in life, Home Staging and Redesign.
I guess a lot of people view Home Staging as just “decorating!” But we know differently. Our goal when we enter a home that is, or is about to be listed, is to arrange the furnishings in the house to attract the greatest number of buyers and give them the visual of what it would be like to actually live in that new home! Adding key connection points to that Master Bedroom and Bath, lounging in that great living room, or backyard, and “picturing” themselves in that new kitchen is what Home Staging is all about.
We have all experienced walking into that Model Home with it’s beautiful furniture, accessories, wall colors, beautifully hung and folded bath towels, and we go back to our own homes thinking we would love to live in that beautifully decorated home! Home builders all realize the importance of preparing the Models of the homes they have for sale to give that potential buyer a clearer picture of what the homes can look like with a lots of effort and even more money!! But, that same picture can be painted to your home for sale and without spending the money that the builders allot for their models. Home Stagers are trained in all the aspects for highlighting each homes’ gleeming qualities and hiding the not so nice. And that is why Conferences like RESA’s continually gives us all the resources to excel in our field and want to learn more.
RESA again, held a geat conference. Just when I think I cannot learn or absorb anymore, the next Speaker takes the podium, there I am fascinated by what they have to teach me. I guess you can say that experience is the greatest teacher. Thanks again Shell Brodnax for gathering such a great team of teachers and for sharing with us all!

I recently came across an article by Andrea Downing Peck in the current Costco Connections magazine that gave me some great resources you may not have considered.

www.dressforsuccess.org accepts interview-appropriate women’s clothing and shoes for disadvantaged women. Visit their website for a location nearest you.

EBay refunds seller fees equal to the percentage of the profits donated.

Www.glassslipperproject.org collects almost new formals an accessories and gives them to Chicago high school students in need. Check with a local chapter in your area.

The Purple Heart www.purpleheart.org will schedule pickup of donated cars, RV’s, clothing and other household goods. Proceeds support veterans programs.

I think we all agree that choosing items to donate or get rid of is quite a job in itself! One trick I have learned is to turn all your hangers in your closet with the hooks facing “Forward” instead of the traditional ‘Inward” position. Give yourself a time period, maybe 3 months or so. At the end of that time period you will be able to see the things you haven’t been wearing because those items are still hung the opposite way! This trick works exceptionally well! Of course, seasonal items should be set off to one side of your closet or in attractive storage containers, baskets or boxes. Making that Closet more attractive by purchasing these nice storage containers can really help keep you organized. Labeling the boxes is a great idea also, because sometimes what is out of sight, is out of mind! You may forget you have stored those items away, and if you do, you may find you really don’t need or want those things either, so put those in the donation pile next month!
Now that you have eliminated those unused items, where do they go now? I will give you some great tips in my next post!

As many of you out there I planned to go thru my closet and get rid of some old clothing items before the end of 2010. Not! It seemed so overhelming (I have a giant, Beautiful closet) and when could I find the time for such a huge job?
So I took the Hanger by the “Horns” and started piling pants and shirts on the floor as I had a few minutes and after doing this for a couple of days, I packed them into bags, and Viola! Step one accomlished. My closet was on the way to looking like the ones in the magazines. I do a little 2 to 3 times a week, and I have taken that “overwhelming” task to small job! Just like losing weight, take it a pound at a time.
Look for more tips in De-Cluttering your home in my future posts!

Yvonne and Maureen recently attended the first RESA Conference in Las Vegas! Over 220 fellow Stagers were in attendance and we attended many hours of classroom instructions, all for the sake of making Consider It Staged Top Notched!

Beside meeting hundeds of fellow Stagers, Yvonne and Maureen were lucky enough to meet Matthew Finlason and Bethany Souza from HGTV! Sadly when on our way to the airport that Tuesday afternoon, we were informed we had just missed meeting Donald Trump! Good, thing, didn’t want to hear that infamous “Your Fired!” tag aimed our way!

Classes on Social Media, Photography, working with Realtors and Flippers and Investors, and upgrading our Websites were some of the lectures we attended. Whew! Lots to absorb, but we are now applying all we learned to make our business better.

Looking forward to attending many years Of Resa Conferences!
